This project isn't going to "bring the dragon uncomfortably close to India's border". The dragon is already there, in the form of the Maoist ruling party (which Jimmy Carter helped bring to power when he worked with the gov't to set up democratic elections).

For HHDL's critics regarding political involvement - and what is behind this latest Chinese ploy - Siddharthaland?

These articles are from six months ago, Iron Rabbit....

  • Six months ago is timely enough for us. :)
It should be noted that the Chinese are big on using Buddhism to develop tourism. Last year they tore down the village that's the Dalai Lama's birthplace, and rebuilt the houses to look spiffy for Western tourists. I see this latest project as part of the same trajectory.

Well, @Dazzle, I have never seen them.
I would imagine others haven't either.
Is there a time limit we should place on articles, you think?

If you have a problem, with dated articles, maybe just not posting would be ok... :)

Gosh, no need to get ultra-sensitive girls, I was just mentioning that it isn't newly breaking news, no big deal !

    And not by me..... ;)
  • Gee, that's funny, I was going to post the same smilie to your "Gosh, just mentioning..." post.
I guess it's just your day to police our board for your view of out-of-date or repeat articles. Why, remains a mystery. The thing is, our membership is growing by such leaps and bounds, these articles are new to the vast majority of members. A good topic is a good topic. If you find us a bit old shoe, you're free to not post, and let others enjoy.
  • Yes you did post the smilie Dakini, and then deleted it when you saw mine posted after it. Don't play mind games and start trying to target me like you have done in the past, its unkind and totally unnecessary.
  • ?? I removed mine immediately, there was nothing posted after it.

    THAT'S ENOUGH.

Back to topic, @IronRabbit, I think it's clear this is about politics, meaning: China extending its influence, if not the actual border, to the Indian border, and it's about commercialism. It should be clear by now that the Maoist movement is China's ploy to take over more turf bordering on India. I don't believe that the Maoist movement in Nepal is homegrown. China also is negotiating with India to take back part of Arunachal Pradesh in India's northeast, which it has laid claim to for decades. So there's a clear pattern of encroachment on India.

HHDL has done much to democratize the government. He was political head of Tibet because that was the nature of the position he inherited, it's hardly something to blame him for. It's to his credit that he spun off that part of his job to an elected official.
