In this Dhamma talk Ven. Dhammavudho Thero emphasized the importance of studying or listening to the original teaching of the Buddha in order to gain right view. Right view is the first factor in Noble Eightfold Path. Without gaining right view you have not entered the Noble Eightfold Path even if you have been practicing other factors for many years... you will not be making progress.
That sounds like the kind of dogmatic claim that makes me sad. Also it is always a good idea to practice any part of the eightfold path that you can. Moral behavior or meditation may help you in your life, no matter what you think about the Buddhist teaching.
