Western Buddhist stereotypes video idea.

For my YouTube channel, I want to make a "sh*t _____ says" style video. Particularly, a video pertaining to Western Buddhist stereotypes of what we say and do.

I have a few, but need some sugesstions.

Any ideas anyone? :D

  • Buddhists? All I know all about them, and their worship of that high fat man...
Buddhists? They are dumb, they think sex is sinful...
Buddhists? They are against enjoyment, they want life to be boring and painful...
Buddhists? They are those bald people with orange robes...
Buddhists? They have a Pope too, the Dalai Lama...
Buddhists? Well you know they don't eat meat, they are all vegetarians...
Buddhists? They are not allowed to do things that they like doing...

Is it supposed to be things western buddhists say or things non-buddhists say about western buddhists?

@Bunks, I meant more of what American, Canadian & U.K "converts" would say about being a Buddhist.

Stuff kind of like: "I have to meditate for an hour? Can't I just do it really hard and finish in about 10 minutes?"

But I do like the suggestions @JosephW made. I might make a video about how Buddhism is perceived by non-Buddhist westerners.

    Oh, my bad, I misread...

Either way, these are only ones I have heard personally, even though, it is from a different point of view than your subject...

  • That was a lovely meditation we shared.

I could never meditate in the dark.

What am I meant to do when I am not meditating?

I never meditate, I have rinpoches phone number.

Yes but the full lotus is best.

    That is so profound.

    Etc etc . . .

"I just leveled up in meditation."
"What does it look like in Nirvana?"
"Now I am spiritual I can't laugh at things or have any type of emotion for that matter."
"Meditate for half an hour a day and then go and buy some beer and roll a joint for Saturday night."

"But if I'm supposed to be aware of the present moment, how can I plan things?"
"Is it okay to move during meditation?"
"What am I supposed to think about?"
"Oh yeah I meditate all the time. But I don't believe in karma or rebirth or any of that religious stuff. It's just for stress relief."
"How do I know when I'm enlightened?"
"If I'm enlightened, does that mean I can't enjoy anything?"
"So if you're a Buddhist, it means you can't have sex right?"
    "It's like the Matrix!"

I am going to start a thread on stupid things I have said, starting with:
"My new year resolution is to be a Buddha this year"

    And . . .

"Get behind me Buddha" based on an earlier version of the Zen Koan about killing any buddha obstacles . . .

Most of the stupid stuff I have said I do not remember due to me saying it under the influence of medication which I have not taken for a week today, I still have a job and am able to live a normal life :) Seriously I cannot remember much of what has happened over the past 2 years, well the trivial stuff anyway :/
