Sleep less well, for the most part :)

I used to wonder why I couldn't sleep for the longest time, then connected that to the full moon - I think it makes some more restless - something primal - maybe just romanticizing the full moon...now, I just look out my window and smile at it and give thanks for Life.

It's also the summer solstice, the longest day. Ice-cream under the moonlight!

Renew vows. Maintain vigil. On a humorous note watch out for werewolves.

    8 precepts instead of five.

@grackle -- Let's see who's laughing the next time you run into a werewolf! :)

Here in the desert sw they claim you have to be careful not too run into shape shifters. Bats hang off the outer door frame. The tarantulas seem unusually active this year.

It is common for sanghas and centers to re-take vows and do extra precepts for the day. But it's not a requirement or anything. I just try to enjoy the extra light at night and sometimes get out for a late night run! Maybe I'll do that tonight, actually.

    Thanks for the link @Bunks
Some sangha do meditate/practice longer or through the night of a full moon and my local birds seem chirpier when the light is on from a full moon.

It's 2:54 AM, so the full moon must cause sleep deprivation!

Decades ago I worked in a very busy big-city ER, and most of the staff believed in the "full moon effect" despite numerous studies refuting it.

This is the problem; most 'evidence' is seen as anecdotal. I don't know how they test these reports, frankly. If they were simply to stand in any high street and ask random passers-by whether they believe they are affected by the phases of the moon, I am convinced they would get an overwhelming amount of positive confirmations.

It's like doctors saying "there is no connection between babies' teething, and nappy rash". Try telling millions of nursing mothers, that. It's not just coincidence, but as scientists cannot find a physical connection, then it's all in our minds.
    Isn't it?

I've heard similar things from paramedics and police officers. Maybe people use it as an excuse?

As I recall, study methodology was to take every chart over a given time span, remove visit dates, have a clinician do a review to select "full moon patients " (these actually stand out vividly -- and hilariously -- in retrospective chart review). The researcher, with access to visit dates, then compares full moon patient census against actual phase of the moon. Correlation coefficient either is statistically valid or it is not; in the full moon studies it generally is not.

I work at a Specialist Physician's office here in MD. Everyone here believes the full moon effect here but me, it seems. Well, me and the docs, probably. I think folks are always saying, "I know it's a full moon soon, it's so crazy today!" even though they have no clue what the moon is doing or how stuffed she is. But if they see the full moon symbol on their calendar they will comment on how "typical" the business of the day is.... in reality it's just nuts here every day. I dunno. Gives them something to hold on to, I suppose.

Hey! Today is Ancestors' day! These holidays intrigue me. Coincidentally, it is also a cousin's birthday, but you have to be gone from this life to be an ancestor, yes? Well, I appreciate my ancestors' lovemaking, which brought me here to enjoy high-heeled shoes and puppy dogs. <3:proud:
