Fool Lotus

From another thread ...
I cannot understand what the twisting of legs into a pretzel has to do with anything!

Once upon a time ...

Many yogi, dharma religions, new-wagers (spiritual capitalists), Buddhists, magicians etc, advocate the Full Lotus for meditation.
What are the benefits if any?

My own experience

  • If painful or disabling (yes it can damage people) it is distractive at best
  • Slight discomfort keeps us attentive
  • Some practitioners attach to its cultural mystique

Are you a pretzel Buddhist?

  • My daily gentle yoga practice is allowing me to very naturally sit kneeling or in a full lotus for a few moments. Another few months and it may become easy again. o:)

    A very stable/grounded stillness.

Having a range of possibilities, rather than a dogma asana is very helpful.
    Soon I will be a meditation ninja ... :p
