Okay, here it is, the first quiz of 2008! Drum roll, please...

Name the four sublime states of mind as taught by the Buddha.

I'll start giving out smilies as prizes in the next week.

Good luck!! :)

    They're known as the "Brahma-viharas":

    They are:

Loving Kindness, Universal Compassion, Sympathetic Joy and Equanimity.

And one can say a Being is 'Equanimous'. Odd as it sounds to the ear, it DOES exist.

And I would add that Buddhism has specific and powerful ways to acquire each of these states of mind and install them as our 'default' positions.

All other spiritual paths confirm the importance of such states. Buddhism is one of the few that shows, in precise detail, how to achieve them here and now.

No prize yet. This is a treasure hunt, I think, and we've only found the first clue. And I'm not sure we know where it points next!

Oooohhh!!!! I'm SO glad this wasn't too easy and people are having to look it up! That's just what I wanted.

Keep coming with the answers! Keep them concise and in your own words, no copying and pasting. :)

Oh phooey Boo - does this mean I actually have to do some work on it? Ah well - go and find where I left my brain and will do so

Just wait 'til I ask everyone to do the next thing. Much harder but worth every drop of sweat!! Really. I have it on good authority. :)

    Breathing out " I am home . "

    and

    Breathing in " Present moment."

    Lol!!

I'm still hunting for my next quiz question and will post it as soon as I find it. I want something that everyone has to do some searching for but something that's also relevant to our daily lives. Stay tuned...

Whilst it is not the "answer" to the question, I think that mouse-clicks are the sound of one hand clapping (or crap-surfing).
  • edited May 2008
FINALLY - we have the answer!:)

You know what could be fun. The person who answered the question right first has to ask the next question. That way others could get into it and look up the answers in the first place. I know this is old, but thought it a good idea. Boo comes up with the neatest stuff.
