    Today, I have commemorated and remembered my many USian friends. I have also offered tobacco for my Native American friends and all those who died in their fight for freedom or on the Trail of Tears.

    One of them said to me, today, that she had to work hard not to resent the gifts by which her forebears had fed and kept alive the first immigrants. I suggested that she simply bear in mind the old saying that "No good deed ever goes unpunished."
