Healing through Eye Gazing

"When eye contact between two people is initiated and maintained, an invisible energetic circuit is established between the two participants, dissolving the barriers that ordinarily separate them from each other, drawing them ever closer into a shared awareness of union." Will Johnson*

To really see and be seen by another is in itself a powerful healing tool. How often do we really allow ourselves to make deep contact with another human being?

Eye gazing enables participants to drop into deep and loving contact with themselves and each other. As the contact deepens we begin to experience each other in an entirely different way. External issues such as physical appearance or personality cease to be relevant as we start to establish the mysterious 'energetic circuit' that Will Johnson refers to. At first we may feel uncomfortable and exposed with nowhere to hide. But this discomfort quickly dissipates when we accept it and surrender to the process.

Eye gazing sessions often take participants on a journey through a variety of experiences which might include; great stillness and calm, waves of sadness / loss / grief, extraordinary light reversals and colour changes, strong tactile body sensations, fits of euphoric laughter, ecstasy etc. The more we can accept and surrender to whatever comes up the deeper we are able to go and thus the richer our experience will be.

In such expanded states participants have greatly enhanced perceptual ranges and thus may perceive clairvoyant and / or other non-ordinary information. Practitioners may at some point come across the experience of their partner's faces morphing into other faces which may be interpreted as past or other lifetime phenomena. Alternatively we can view such phenomena as a projection from our own psyche onto the other. Though fascinating these observations are a bit of a side show if our true quest is for the experience of union.

In the face of the safe and loving contact that eye gazing facilitates emotional pain held within the energy field and physical body will at some point surface for healing. As it does the experiencer has the choice to really feel and release the pain and in doing so clear and unblock chakras allowing more life force to flow. Since the movement of energy is often pleasurable when we surrender to it the healing process can be very enjoyable.

Eye Gazing is a very powerful healing method because it very quickly takes us to an experience of recognising the other as ourself. It directly challenges the illusion of separation and offers us the chance to repeatedly taste our fundamental unity. If followed the practice offers the possibility of a complete dissolving of self and other into what Rumi calls the 'Consciousness of Union'.

Working in a group of practitioners adds powerful healing potential to the work. Not only are individual issues being healed but also the issues that resonate across the group as a whole. On an energetic level powerful healing waves move across the room triggering old wounds and exposing limiting beliefs ready for healing.

However since the group setting offers such a powerful stage for healing it is essential that there are experienced practitioners at hand to create a safe space and to assist participants as they work through their healing process.

It is common that in that members of a group will at different points experience strong resistance or energetic blocks. Sometimes individuals will drop into 'time capsules' or past/other life experiences as a way of releasing. In any of these situations it can be very helpful to have experienced energy healers available to help move the stuck energy consciousness up the vertical power current and out of the auric field.

When we engage in eye gazing and we surrender to the emotions and sensations that arise we start to move our energy up our vertical power current and clear our chakras as the limiting and fear based beliefs we held are challenged by the deep loving contact. If we open up all the way through our crown then we may pop into a state of ecstasy or bliss.

As well as being a great place to be the state of bliss holds great healing potential for those around us and, through harmonic resonance, can help trigger the healing process elsewhere in the group.

    Oh damn....
I was introduced to a variation of this meditation about 6 years ago....
we were in a big group, and unfortunately, even though we really did try, and we even swapped partners, all it did was reduce us all to gales of laughter.
it did wonders for morale, but unfortunately, our meditation session just became one big giggle.
  • Just did it with the girl friend. What a rollercoaster.

And the laughter was a neat part of it.

How absurd we all look haha.

Eyegazing is part of tantric practice. I'm not surprised it didn't work between strangers or acquaintances. There's more than eye-gazing involved in truly "seeing" someone. Listening is important. You can't see and understand someone, anyone, unless you listen to them and hear them.
  • I think this seems like a great practice the problem is the reality of finding someone who you feel love or compassion toward that can take you guys staring at each other for long periods of time serious without laughter and or creepiness. I think it makes total sense and would work, but odds of finding the perfect partner for the practice are slim.

I personally would no more advise establishing eyegazing as a meditative practice among strangers than I would advise opening up the sum total of one another's personal correspondence as a meditative practice.
