The Nature of Existence

personperson Don't believe everything you thinkThe liminal space Veteran
Came across this documentary. The filmmaker interviews people of all religions and walks of life about the deep questions, why are we here?, what is happiness?, what happens when we die?, etc.

It came across as respectful towards all the opinions expressed, even the extreme ones.

I thought that the most unreasonable folk things of Buddhism were presented and very few of the attractive teachings.

Now that you mention it, I suppose you're right. I think he did that all around though, which I guess is kind of inherent in the type of metaphysical questions he was posing.

we are here (on Earth) because we had hate (we were not satisfied / we suffered / we didn't know why we were suffering)
we continue because of our craving
    (our existence now and future)

you read this post now because you had no satisfaction/were suffered (hate)
you were searching for something to be satisfied (craving)

we can investigate this through our six sense bases (World)
no need to travel through out the world (different countries)
asking questions from different people (external sense bases)

  • Since the nature of existence is impermanence, nothing exist. Things only appear to exist but really there is nothing that truly exist. Before the Big Bang where was the "universe", where was anything?

    All that arise ceases.

I made a cup of coffee, and sat this morning watching this...with a
view out the window. Misty morning, birds, and trees.

It was a great movie! Better than the last 3 I saw at the theater!

It was not only respectful...but it was integration well done! I laughed at
times.....I also learned some stuff, and I really enjoyed listening
to everyone talking about the same things we do here....
Some of my laughs were because of the same discussions we had
    here...hahaha. I enjoyed this!

  • The teachings: Ultimately a distraction
    Teachings describing what isn’t
If the medicine is not correct the patient can get sicker
Miss diagnosis and over using pointers
(techniques, mantras, yantras, tantras) make for stuck pointers
When pointers are overused past their expiration date dogma prevails into fundamentalism
    The rigidity of should’s
    Fixed ideas and positions
    An iron Ox cannot move
Fixed positions imagining they should be fixed
    A promise of enlightenment
    The reward for one-pointed blindness
    A promise of enlightenment
    Blind Faith with hope
    A bitter combination

The promise of enlightenment becomes a
    guarantee of eternal bliss
The Iron Ox remains stuck without any movement
    Appreciate the pointers
Throw away the should’s of always place and
    position
    Without rules
    Without right or wrong
    Without discrimination
When the “I” dissolves the body is an empty corpse
Only illusionary consciousness remains although unnoticed
Pointers used after their expiration date become
stuck pointers yielding dogma, rigidity and fundamentalist positions
    The reward for one-pointed blindness
    A promise of enlightenment
    Blind Faith with hope
    A bitter combination

    guarantee of eternal bliss
