Haiku thread

VastmindVastmind Memphis, TN Veteran

It's been a while since we had a haiku thread...Aunt Fede started it with this beauty....

This is a small gift (5)...

It's a Buddha but who cares (7)...

It's the thought that counts. (5)

( line 1 & 3 make sense without line 2)

Here's mine :

My hair is getting long.

I wore a mohawk for so long.

I now wear little barrettes.

Is that what haiku means? I've heard the word but never understood the technicalities.

    Night times heavy rain

I dream of a green heaven

    Soaking into roots.

Yes, and masterfully, lines one and three should be able to stand on their own and make sense, without line two (the 7-syllable one)....

    May brings memories

Joy and pain arise then go

    Hawthorne's blossom scent.

    @‌federica

    I think I am starting

In a more clearly defined way

    to see what you mean

    There is nothing more joyful

And I mean this from my heart

    Seeing poetry's form as Art

Resurrected this from a teenage memory, and I noticed you can turn it into haiku - cool!

    If you noticed, this Notice,

you will have noticed, that this Notice

    is really not worth noticing.

    I see Haiku 'rules'

    You seem to like 'rain'

    featuring in both haikus

    weather is your friend....

  • CittaCitta Veteran

I don't know how the weather is 'round your way federica..but here in leafy Surrey it hasn't stopped for more than an hour or two for several days.

It's soaked into my flow...And I like it.

Some sun would also be nice.

I can't argue with, or contradict any of that.

Just a leee-tle bit worried.... the guy down the road has a pantechnicon load of wood and seems to be building an ark....

Mercifully, no. Although he hasn't said a word about God - but there the similarity ends.

I actually wish he looked more like this guy - who is, I understand, actually a qualified, experienced and more-than-adept carpenter IRL..

    as is, incidentally, Harrison Ford.

(That's not a haiku, is it.... Too many syllables, maybe.... ya think...? :D )
