I came to this website because of a search for both Mount Sumeru and the earth's magnetic field. While I was reading the Lotus Sutra the consilience struck me as well. It often seems that people in vastly different fields of human endeavor are talking about the same aspects of reality from different perspectives, using different dictionaries, doesn't it?
If all consciousness is capable of omniscience, and being attached/being adverse to any particular perspective is dukkha, are both the scientific and the Buddhist descriptions equally dukkha?
All compounded phenomena are impermanent, subject to change and therefore under the general umbrella that perceives all unskilful attachments as 'dukkha'.
Is it?
How so?
Descriptions are not dukkha.
'That is a cat', is not dukkha. 'That is a sentient being', is not dukkha.
The wording is interesting, "attached to a perspective". Taken word for word, being attached is bad. But being attached and using are not the same, one can discuss a particular perspective's views for many beneficial reasons. The problem comes when you are so attached to a single perspective that you begin to love it, elevating its perceptions above another perspective even if that other perspective might contain more truth.
Two bodies in motion may be subject to prediction - three is chaos and unpredictable - a hint to the close borders of cognisance.
The difference is vast when the view is narrow.
I was about to launch into a whole 'perspective' thing, but...
