Teachers

If we learn, we have been taught. If too taut, we break.
https://tricycle.org/magazine/buddhist-teacher-crosses-line/

Here are some examples of learning resources:

  • Sangha, often for inspiration. The diversity means we can learn from a variety of insights. Are many heads better than ones?
  • Lore (dharma) books, interweb, talks. Information.
  • Buddhas, lamas, roshis, wikipedia :3

There are also hidden resources, learning from mishtakes, abandoning useless and unethical practices. This is where we become examples or unfolding of our teaching/sharing experience.

Who is a student? I suppose we all are ...

You have a choice out of all the teachers of the past, however they are encoded. Often the problem is just finding who and where to find them...

I have never had a problem finding sangha, dharma or boddhisatva.

For example want to learn about zen?

The best teacher I have had (and I'm still continuing to learn much from) is Ms "Patience" she's the perfect teacher :)

Our teachers are our examples. And their example helps us better understand what the path is about.

Our teachers, just by being who they are, motivate us to work on our Practice.

Our teachers teach us the techniques, teach us the Practice.

But what WE learn comes from experience .. from doing our Practice and our meditation.
Buddhism is not learned through words, but from our own inner searching.
What words ARE there .. they are merely affirmation that what we have started to comprehend is indeed part of the path.
But even with that .. don't get too excited about what you grasp. Because, sure as the sun rises, 5-10 years from now you will revise/deepen your understanding and laugh at what you once "thought" you understood.

    Well said @FoibleFull <3

As someone who laughs at the Buddha, I need all the teachers available.

Didn't Pema Chodron give a talk called 'this moment is the perfect teacher?'

    Maybe. ðŸĪŦ

Maybe we can learn from the talks some never give. 'The faults of my imperfect teacher'. 😊

There are on newbuddhist and in life, many experiences and people we can learn both how to be and how not to be. For example @Jason one of our beloved moderators has an excellent knowledge of sutras and a terrible taste in violent music. ðŸĪŽ @karasti and @federica another two moderators, provide excellent worldly, real life common sense. ðŸ™ðŸ―
We have whingers and weirdos, alcoholics and unstable people. ðŸĪŠ Some Buddhists 😉, quite a few meditators. 🧘‍♀ïļðŸ§˜ðŸ―‍♂ïļðŸ˜Œ

All valuable, rich in experience and gems of insight ... 💗🌈👍ðŸū

I can only guess, when we are open to learning, we simply never cease to learn.
I live in awe, therefore life never ceases to amaze me.
