Art

Art is, in my opinion, the purest expression of ideas. For example, a suspiciously rooster looking phoenix holding a banner of black, white, yellow, and red, represents refinement, and rebirth. I was wondering your thoughts on how to use symbolism, metaphor, etc to express ideas in art, specifically buddhist or theological/philosophical ideas.

@paulyso the tree of life, is in all religions. Especially in kabbalistic judaism where the tree of life is essential to understanding g-d.

Of course there is the lotus.

  • Not really in art per say but a rainbow is often used to explain appearance and emptiness. The rainbows colors are there appearing but a rainbow is also not really there in a sense it is just light being bent by water droplets.

A prism can also be a metaphor for our heart/minds act as a prism and all sorts of "colors" represent the different 'heart qualities' like steadfastness, compassion, richness, vibrancy, or whatever could be though of as qualities.
