"According to the Theravādin Nikāyasaṅgraha, the large Mahāyāna collection called the Mahāratnakūṭa Sūtra (Taishō Tripiṭaka 310) was composed by the "Andhakas", meaning the Caitika schools of the Āndhra region.[27][28] This collection includes the Śrīmālādevī Siṃhanāda Sūtra, the Longer Sukhāvatīvyūha Sutra, the Akṣobhyavyūha Sūtra, a long text called the Bodhisattva Piṭaka, and others.[29] The Mahāratnakūṭa collection totals 49 Mahāyāna sūtras, divided into 120 fascicles in the Chinese translation."

We can speculate that since the Mahasamghikas are older than the Theravada some of their collections might contain quite old material. Incidentally, Chang's translation, A Treasury of Mahayana Sutras is quite a gold mine.

yo, thanks for that PM about critisism against Monastics. Made me self-reflection and habitual way of posting critisism on this forum. There is a story about a event in Trāyastriṃśa heaven. One day a smelly and ugly demon wondered into Trāyastriṃśa heaven and sat on Sakra Devnam Indra's throne. All the devas are of course angry that this foul creature dares to sit on the heavenly king's throne! So they all ganged up on the demon to shout insult at him, and urged him to get out. But with each insult and rebuke the demon grew bigger and more handsome. Soon he became enormous. Then finally Sakra came back. Being the king and much wiser than other heavenly beings, he took the smart option and order the servant devas to bring food and refreshment to the demon. Sakra also praised the demon continuously, like "how wonderful you are here, we are so honoured by your presence." "your so handsome and wonderful etc." With each praise the demon grew smaller and eventually dissaSeptember 2011
