I feel stuck and unable to move forward. I'm hoping that some people here will have some examples of how they or someone they know conquered their fear and took the next step.

Hi Person, just a few words,
To become a monk is the (almost) total abandonment of everyday life, family ties, career, friends, politics, daily interests such as shopping, hoildaying, etc etc. Monkhood is actually only for those who seeks to single mindedness in pursuing Buddhist practice. This person must firstly develop detachment from the life before this moment. Think through the detachment, if you cant let go, then delay the decision, even if its for one or two issues.

I have personally met ppl who entered monkhood, they let go of everything, kids, spouse, career and just slid into it, albeit they were ready and never looked back. They had a calling, when asked to explain.

Think it through, whats the hurry, if its in your Karma, then it will eventually present itself, for sure!

    Hope it helps

Good to see a thoughtful comment that acknowledges that lay practitioners face contradictions in many situations. We *are* sometimes faced with making imperfect choices - not surprising in our imperfect world. Approaching these decisions with compassion & the desire to benefit sentient beings hopefully help us to make better choices ...
