I am politically liberal (many Aussies prefer the word "progressive"), In Buddhism I am moderately conservative (believe in literal rebirth, kamma etc...)

I think having a type of Buddhism orientated to western culture and more western mindset is in itself not a bad thing. However, we have to be mindful when adapting Buddhism to the western culture we don’t lose the fundamentals of the Buddhist path.

I left E-sangha about three years ago because of the toxic atmosphere of the forum. Yes there was lots of good info and great people there but it was over moderated and some of the mods themselves were downright intimidating.
I know what you mean shannobn, owning stuff can be a real drag. When everyone around me talks about i pods, i phones and i what-ever -else I do feel pretty underwhelmed by it all.
