I believe everything happens for a reason, but at the same time we are always prepared to deal with the situation/problem etc etc. It's just our reaction and how we respond that can change that outcome(or rather listening to someone else and not our…
does the Sookie Stackhouse series count? :)
lol j/k, actually one of my favorate books is "someplace to be flying" by charles de lent. over all the storyline construction lacks something, but the plot and the thought process the main character goes…
yes, it great to let the mind wander, it's just the question, where do you want you mind to wander, and what backlash or stimuli do you want to recieve in return? I know I fall victim of living in the future moments ad stressing out about things th…
I highly enjoyed this! thank you for the post. I especially loved the anti-matter part. It makes me curious, if antimatter is the reverse of matter, and matter is the point when something exists(or starts decaying)... then what is in the space betwe…

honestly, anything on a public level can be psychology related. I know there are are some art teachers who create classes for a certain group to help get their spirits up through art. Some book groups are also made this way. you just got to think ou…
The art of misdirection and confusion works great in big stores. I know when I worked at Universal Studios, I notices all the rides let out through the back of the store leaving poor parents trying to fish their kids out of the store without buying …
I agree with the lot of you who think Obama can only do so much with his power. The election system was designed so that not one person can take over quickly, but through time. This is why most ideals, issues and whatnot have a 30 years turnover rate…
To the original post(I didnt read much of the rest), I believe when your meditating you are going deep in yourself and if your not ready to experience some emotions, the mind has it's way of distracting you so you dont experience that trauma/memory/…
yea I think journals are really good for taking a personal moment to reflect or even bounce ideas off your brain, conscientiously. There isn't a need to follow this ritual everyday unless it suits you. for me, I think it would burn me out quickly. I …
It only changes things in your life if you practice and maintain metta. I forget where I heard this, but...
"You can't change just one thing in your life without having domino effect."
I would suggest 2 chapters a week, and those who want to go ahead to take notes so when we get to those sections, we can go over those things that way no loses their momentum or train of thought.
Religion books, especially ones on Buddhism, can be …

also, doesn't always have to be a sanctioned Buddhist book. It could be an everyday book that you found inspiring or interesting. We apply our precepts to the everyday world, why not to everyday reading? just a thought.
I'm game for reading "Never Turn Away". Sounds interesting! also Im up for any sutta that people can access easily online(legally) as it would help other members who cant buy or get things out of their area. I know reading the suttas can get a littl…
Hey there, Sorry I havent participated more, but I got a killer toothache and ear infection that lasted the better part of three weeks so I was in too much pain to really focus and be able to read.
I do have to say, not much of this book really st…
I love tea! I got hooked on milk tea that a Thai person told me about. Steep black tea and add 1 teaspoon sweetened condensed milk or til it's a caramel color. Also, the same method works for espresso shots.
I see no reason for a ban, nirvana. You are just getting things off your chest and giving us an opinion in the proper way. I think every religion has it's "holy rollers" or what not, and sometimes that's the challenge(and sometimes turnoff) of embrac…
I think Buddha intended his thoughts to be more of a theology to adopt into what a person already believed in. Yea, he had disciples, but he needed someone to spread his word and help teach it in the right light. I don't think he intended to be wo…
I think it was a good book for anyone who finds the technical Sanskrit words to throw them off. I know when I started my pursuit of the Buddhist religion/theology that the big Sanskrit words threw me off some, especially when I when I laid down at n…
maybe the first topic should be; "Would I recommend this to anyone?why?" or "Did you feel this book represented Buddhism well and why?". Gives everyone a little more wiggle room as far as what topic they want to discuss but also sticks to a general …

I believe in psychic links, though there are different levels of it. The most intense being possession(like in case of Tuesday Lobsang Rampa) and the light being intuitive.
I usually just vote for people who are fighting for the right issues and have actually made some effort in to getting things done or at least made valid attempts.
Worse case scenario, I just vote for the nicest liar and hope for the best.
Think of the traditions like a recipe book. use what works for you best, everyone is different, so something might work for you that doesn't work for another. Enlightenment comes in many flavors :)
I think your therapist was pretty much hinting towards the "a cult" reference, especially if you said you have a instructor/guru/teacher and have an over the internet relationship which probably sent up some red flags. Anyone can be anything over t…
I used to be a lucid dream myself, but I stop really using that muscle I guess. I tried it years ago via a suggestion by friend when i told them i have dreams that sometimes come true. She had me keep a dream journal and it really helped as far as r…
When I started working with Kundalini, It seemed my body worked extremely harder at processing beef and milk to the point I had to cut them out. It's really best to pay attention to the things that feel "heavy" or "sticks to your ribs" as my friend …
I started using self made mala beads myself to get my mind on track. Alot of poeple try to just close their eyes and freeflow meditation, but I think its better to go in with a plan.
First just try focusing on your breath, if you wander off, its o…
There was a psychological study of a group who were supposed to pretend to be guards for a week, and a another group was supposed to be the prisoners. After a couple days, it had to be stopped because of what the "guards" thought they were supposed …
I just grabbed me a copy, thanks for the book suggestion. After I read this, my next one will be "alone with others", that one looked interesting as well.
That does sound interesting,Dakini. Orlando is still developing in religious culture. I think there is a NKT and Humanistic buddhist temple here. I'll might go to the Humanistic Temple may 15 for Buddha's bday celebration.
I found this for anyone who is interested. The secend part goes through what Tibet culture believes what happens after death through the eyes of the dead.
