  • Re: Martial Arts and Buddhism - Is it acceptable?

What...are we all 7 years of age?

I find it mystifying at how adept Buddhist practitioners can be at justifying just about anything they like doing by equating it to some confabulation of Buddhism.

Did the Buddha recommend moderation with
drug and intoxicant usage, animal butchery, dealing in weapons, slavery or fortune telling or did he simply say that these practices led to the creation of harmfulness.

Anybody want to explain what the Buddha's harmlessness might be?

Who's willing to give Buddhism a whirl with their big boy pants on?.

    @federica

I am sure you have considered...

that the difference between actually hating insomnia and not hating insomnia
could be the difference between having a lot of awake time to hate something
    and
having a lot of awake time to rest.

Well I'm off to bed before some nasty hormonal retort disturbs my potential sleep.
I guess I can check tomorrow for a red splotch where my photo used to be.

@how said:> I'm sure you get the idea.

Not really. As I said most Buddhist practices aim to develop skillful mental qualities, whether it be calm or insight or metta or contentment, or the perfections in Mahayana, or whatever. I wonder if you are confusing the** goal** of practice with the _attitude_ to practice?

Why do you do Buddhist practice?

Hmmm! I don't think I'm confusing them, but then again, the degree to which one can allow phenomena to arise and pass unmolested by our conditioned impulses, appears to be the same degree to which the goal and the attitude can look pretty indistinguishable from each other.

An adversarial perspective promoting a self verses others stance, needs to see differences to maintain it's tribal boundary's where as a more transcendent perspective has no such need.

And as to why do** I **practice???

Well at this point it's probably because I've really got nothing better to do?

  • Re: Helping one being by harming another

Oh no.....Not another thread on food again.

I have decided that every time I read something here about food choices that results in a corresponding moralistic judgement or defensiveness, I'm going to go out and kill something cute and helpless & eat it.

How much weight and moral decrepitude I amass is now totally up to you guys

    Arrrggghhh.

Anybody else have their PC tell them they are now being upgraded to windows10.
I've had them ask before but always it came with the possibility of being declined.
This time it was just a statement that it was doing it, followed up by an immediate shutting down of my computer for an hour while it downloaded the new program. Then it gave me the choice of whether to accept it or not..followed by another shut down of my computer when I did decline after warning me how much better the windows 10 was over my 8.
Well surprise of surprises, the window 8 was re installed but now seems to operate at half the speed it used to and with a new compliment of freezing glitches.

Are they trying to give apple all there business?????
