I've looked into this too and there are a few facts about cultures and the results of their diets that IMO can help clear some of this up.

    1. The Japanese eat very little meat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.

    2. The Mexicans eat a lot of meat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.

    3. The Japanese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans

    4. The Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.

    5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and meats and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.

What does all this mean for us?

Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

    Just adding to this ...

If this theory is true, then

    • we don't have a self per se (as new programs are being added and so there is no core identity)

    • rebirth is the new and improved version of the software

    • order or dharma in this world is the result of careful, meticulous programming

    • chaos (like disease, earthquakes) is introduced now and then like a virus or malware to the system. Results in bulk delete. Explains dukkha.

    • Evolution - biological and other types - can be seen as successive software updates based on trial and error. Explains anitta.

All this fits in well with Buddhism. =)

Except that it sort of posits a programmer/designer doesn't it?

It's programmers all the way down. :p
