I heard about a new app yesterday on Dan Harris' podcast about an app called WeCroak.
It's an app that notifies you that you will die five times a day at random times, just like death. It sounds like a powerful app to reduce attachment or deal with grief.
An article from the Atlantic about it.
It is something that happens to you.
I think I basically agree with that, except I would make a couple changes. First, I would get rid of the words "It is something", enlightenment can't accurately be called a thing as it were. Second, I would get rid of the words "that happens to", those words imply a causality and conditionality to enlightenment that would make it an impermanent phenomena. Lastly, I would get rid of the word "you", as the self is an illusion there is no essential you there for enlightenment to happen to.
I'm just kind of having fun. And the basic concept I lifted from some wise teacher or another, can't remember who, maybe Ajahn Chah.
