The Mahayana didn't invent emptiness!

Here it is in the Phena Suttta:
https://suttacentral.net/en/sn22.95

“Form is like a lump of foam,
Feeling like a water bubble;
Perception is like a mirage,
Volitions like a plantain trunk,
And consciousness like an illusion,
So explained the Kinsman of the Sun."

“However one may ponder it
And carefully investigate it,
It appears but hollow and void
When one views it carefully."

    "The Mahayana didn't invent emptiness!"

I suppose it just appeared out of thin air :)

No, I believe that what @SpinyNorman means, is that it was expanded on in Pali/Theravada FIRST.

    Does it 'matter' ?

I feel the best Mahayana teachings are those that expand on and expound Theravada.

That could just be personal taste though.

Not to mention the only "buddhist meditation" is Vipassana

All the others have Yogic. Anapansati, Zazen etc.

    Dhyana became Chan, became Zen.
Buddha was originally a yogi as well.

    Not many Buddhists mention this.

Long live the Hinayana! :3 [oops]

We tighten and confirm the sutras, through our experience and practice. Often emptied of sensible, need or means to communicate ... well that may just be me ...

Thanks for the Phena reference, may those with socks removed, look inside and find themselves ...

I have updated to post Mahayana and added stockings ... o:)

“Socks blown off like an empty pair,
    Feeling like a wet pair unworn;
Perception is like a designer pair,
    Volitions like a chosen design,
And consciousness like a sock in the mouth,
So explained the Kinsman of the Sun."

It appears but hollow and void
    When one views it carefully."

Emptiness cannot be owned by a spiritual tradition, science etc.
Emptiness is not created and will not end it does encompass everything and everything comes out of this emptiness.
Emptiness does not have a creator, owner.
Emptiness does not has a self
The realisation of this emptiness is equal to Buddhahood
This Buddhahood is inherent in the human beings dormant present
So this Emptiness is the base of Enlightenment as well of illusion
    This emptiness encompasses everything
