Teddy Meditates

Dear Friends of Bare Buddhism,

I was doing an excellent short, led, lying down meditation with a teddy bear.
The meditation was on
https://insighttimer.com/meditation-app
which I have reinstalled. 🐻
Basically it involved placing a teddy on the belly and giving it
a belly ride, up and down, co-ordinating with abdominal breathing.

Sadly I did not have a teddy available but was able to use Tantric
visualisation skills to conjure up the requisite teddy ...

Here is the Theravadin version (different) taught by Ajahn Brahm

I’ll give you an unusual meditation technique I don’t recommend!

I attempted to meditate with a hangover last Sunday.

Turning inwards was not a pleasant experience!

Result? Back to the bar for another Corona.

    I don’t recommend it.

Sounds like a lesson in detachment from a sore head if ever I heard one!

I leave the door open in the evening and sit with the mosquitos. There are two variants of this meditation, one of them incorporates hand movements, the other does not. No squashing allowed.

I have done walking meditation with midges. Trying to keep awareness on the breathing and not being bitten. B)
No matter how hard I try ... hand movements required ... :3

Perhaps one could consider delivering a dharma talk to the midges, mosquitos, or teddy bears. I used to do icon painting on stained glass, and I am reminded of one of St. Blaise giving a sermon to some cows and donkeys. I still have the darned thing - I think it is unsalable - but the idea's not so bad. The mosquitos, et al, won't listen, but the practitioner can. Think I'll try it, one of these evenings.

It is not uncommon for divines to talk to animals. St Bodhi Francis realised his words were not being listened to by the ecclesiastics ... so he went out and spread the good news of his monk order of poverty, to the carrion birds, mostly ravens.

    The rest is history ...

What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the winter time. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the Sunset.

I attempted to meditate with a hangover last Sunday.

Meditation is not easy if distracted by illness, bills, alcohol, thoughts or emotions etc ... (I likes ease, peace of mindlessness, dumber dharma etc)
There is a free online Dzogchen meditation course that I will not finish. The last meditation is done after drinking a bottle of wine. Maybe it has changed ...

I am not a drinker. It would be unskilful. I am not interested in discussing this with the arow .... arrow ... ARO groupies. So not for me ... anyway I thought aero was a chocolate full of holes 😉

mmm ... choccy meditation ... I am on it ...

The course is excellent incidentally ...
