There is a difference between generating a visual character and generating its actions and voice... we will have to see how much it truly does, but it definitely seems a step forward.

This tech actually really worries me, its also known as deepfakes.

What happens when people use this tech to make politicians seems to say and do things they didn't? Or maybe a malicious co-worker makes a video of you doing something fireable? Or having this tech out there will also cause people to doubt real video catching people out, police shootings, for example.

That’s an interesting thought. Of course a Buddha AI couldn’t share the experience of what it is to be human, and so might lack certain insights. Current AI research is hung up on machine learning algorithms such as neural nets, I think Google DeepMind recently developed a system which performed as well as two doctors discussing breast scans for cancer. They’ve also done a lot of interesting research on getting AI to play computer games as well as humans.

That’s still a long way off from producing a Buddha AI... I don’t think it would be enough just to feed an AI all the sutra’s and let it learn from that, if that were enough we’d have lots of enlightened Buddhist scholars walking around, and very few scholars claim enlightenment.

I think we would first need to have a much better understanding of consciousness. How do you make an AI that is conscious? Does it need special hardware to interface with the universe? A computer as we make them now are just machines that repeat sets of instructions. The problem of a generalised learning AI has not yet been solved...

I'm more inclined to think (hope?) @lobster's tongue was firmly wedged in his cheek, @Kerome...

The most we have presently is Augmented Intelligence. AI is not conscious ... and according to some dharma we too are nothing but Dependent Origination of our socialisation/psychological projection/delusions.

    Neon is far from human.
The neo-human is currently a hybrid, part human, part phone. In the vernacular - a phone zombi.

A generated reality is part of Tantra Practice. Might be time for me to go practice in a Second Life Buddhist Temple ...

An artificial intelligence monk program might be possible quite soon though. Knows all the sutra’s, accompanies you on your travels, gives Buddhist advice. It wouldn’t be conscious but it’d be a reasonable facsimile. You never know.

Yes, but if he kept putting apostrophes where they ain't required, I'd find him, and kill him. I have a very special set of skills, you know....

  • Thanks everyone 💗🙏🏽😌

Simulated intelligence, like simulated enlightenment has its uses. For example:

@federica can 'kill the buddha' zen style
    @Lionduck can buy a guru/buddha as an ornament or get a refund-a-mental ;)
@Kerome can check out the virtual monk (one to practice kill points)

The inner buddha buddy we all have aka buddha-Nuture/Nature that @Shoshin mentions is part of both Theravadin, Tantra, Shingon and other traditions. The monk/lama is a representation of Ye olde Shakyamuni Priestly Jewel ...

As a community of virtual community Buddhists, one of the jewels, the sangha is computerised ... and sutras of all persuasions are virtually online ...

    I'll join ...
