    I love it.... <3

  • Just a minute

Breathing in, I connect with the energy of awakening within every cell of my body.
Breathing out, I feel inspired by the energy of awakening in others.

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate these blessings, they are words of wisdom and kindness to onesself and to others, and it is good to be reminded of these things. I may end up hanging @lionduck’s contribution somewhere in the house.

My current favourite is this. It's not a Blessing exactly, but a reminder that everything holds truth; How we speak it, and how others speak it, is for us to process, digest and appreciate...

  • Prayer performed each morning by His Holiness the Dalai Lama

May I be a guard for those who need protection
A guide for those on the path
A boat, a raft, a bridge for those who wish to cross the flood
May I be a lamp in the darkness
A resting place for the weary
A healing medicine for all who are sick
A vase of plenty, a tree of miracles
And for the boundless multitudes of living beings
May I bring sustenance and awakening
Enduring like the earth and sky
Until all beings are freed from sorrow
    And all are awakened.

May all beings have happiness and its causes,

  • I am a link in Lord Buddha’s golden chain of love that stretches around the world.
I must keep my link bright and strong.
I will try to be kind and gentle to every living thing, and protect all who are weaker than myself.
I will try to think pure and beautiful thoughts, to say pure and beautiful words, and to do pure and beautiful deeds, knowing that on what I do now depends my happiness and misery.
May every link in Lord Buddha’s golden chain of love become bright and strong and may we all attain perfect peace.

  • Here is the great Earth,
filled with the smell of incense,
covered with a blanket of flowers,
the Great Mountain, the Four Continents,
wearing a jewel of the Sun and Moon.
In my mind I make them the Paradise of a Buddha,
and offer it all to You.
By this deed, May every living being
    Experience the Pure World.

  • Our Prayer
“Let us offer prayers and blessings
for all people and all nations of the Earth.
Let us bless that, though intense, this will also become a time
of conscious awakening and healing for everyone.
We know, from the lessons of history,
that great difficulties, disasters and challenging times
also can strengthen and unify us by dissolving the differences
    that appear to divide us.
    Calamities often strengthen us internally,
making us more deeply aware of the highest values of life.
Troubling times encourages us to work together,
to genuinely care for each other.
Such events make us more aware of our collective strength
when we work together as one united human family.
May we grow in unity, love and understanding.
    The Lord’s Blessings be upon
all people and nations affected at this time.
May governments and all helpers move in an inspired,
    co-operative and harmonious way,
so that collectively we are able to put right
whatever needs to be put right within our capacity.
Our prayer is that this disease comes to an end soon.
We believe, trust, know this will happen.
This is a prayer for our entire world and its leaders.
We pray that the greater, higher Truth which dwells inside us all
raise us up in conscious awareness of our true nature and Being
so that we become more kind, more open,
more loving, wise, peaceful and powerful in the Truth we are.
May we live fully in the joy of our real nature
in accordance with the will of the Supreme God Almighty.”

To support mother and father, to cherish partner and children, and to be engaged in peaceful occupation—this is the greatest blessing.
    —The Buddha, ‘Maha-mangala Sutta’

Note: The Buddha lists (surprise surprise) several other “greatest blessings” in this discourse. It’s worth a quick look.

    https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/kn/snp/snp.2.04

Also worth noting: The word for blessing, maṅgala, can also be translated as “protection”.

I'm wondering if the Buddha really said this, because he was Guilt-tripping, or if someone else added this, as a 'don't do what he did' kinda recommendation!

I take your point @federica. I hadn’t thought of it that way. I guess it could be argued that ultimately he did support his family. His mother died shortly after giving birth, but according to the traditional story his father, wife, and son all became his disciples and eventually arahants. That seems like a good trade-off to me.

Going to have to sit and devote the time to reading it and digesting the content. I would LOVE to try this, but I have a very demanding child at home, at the moment, and achieving total darkness and isolation at home, and being provided with food, is currently absolutely impossible.

    Practise patience and perseverance...
