    Lovely @Shoshin1

My father thought Waiheke Island was paradise. He didn't want to leave....

    Shoshin1
  • Sadly at the moment @Bunks it's paradise lost for some locals (foreign nationals and residents alike) ...those casual/part time workers and those already struggling on a benefit are eating our local foodbank out of house & home....

Back down to 15C for the weekend though apparently. Winter still hanging on for a bit :)

I was kidding with someone the other day that we had Spring from late February to Beginning of August, with the odd occasional hot flash, and we're now straight into Autumn. Summer - as a reliable, pleasant, "t-shirt and shorts" period of time, has bypassed us completely.

I dunno the last few years we have been having summer heat waves in the 36 degrees C range. Now that was hot. Although not this year it has to be said, average temp 17.7 degrees here and a lot of wet weather.

Yes I heard that. Apparently he was being trailed so seems odd that he was able to stab so many people?

As far as we know right now, none of them is dead, but it's actually a better thing that he only reached those people. It could have been a lot worse. From what I read, some of the supermarket employees managed to prevent further blodshed...

We are primarily wired towards self preservation. Socialisation turns us into team copers that interferes with our me-me toddler mind set.

    Everybody prefers autonomy.

As to where to … well you choose and provide tips if able …

    Good luck <3

I had the same realisation some time ago, I’m not really a very social person. If left to my own devices I’ll just kind of potter along. I think it is our great ape heritage, that we spend some time apart from the group, and then come back to the group. It’s probably a sign that you need to build more time to be solitary into your day.

Fascinating piece Shoshin. It was generally held that not until the Middle Ages did clockwork devices came to be seen as the greatest advance of technology, now we know that goes a lot further back.

In this day and age, being a wandering Mendicant isn't easy. You're looked upon as a social scrounger and lazy layabout, if your chosen solitary path is one of choice...

Is there anything you could turn your hand to, which would mean either working from home, or being your own boss?

Do you prefer cerebral stimulation, or are you willing to get your hands dirty?
Is there something you might be interested in qualifying for, that you could study, providing there might be grants available? (My mother returned to education aged 53, so don't say you're past that!)

What actually tickles your fancy? (NOT a euphemism!)

I pulled a muscle in my lower back last week, it has been excruciating and troublesome to rehab. I’ve been taking little walks from my home but for the rest largely bedridden. Almost out of paracetamol too, will have to plan a trip to the grocery soon.

Is finding oneself not being a team player & not liking being told what to do, much more than our mentality & feelings, fearing a loss of control?

Yeah, the first day surprised me with how much my back could hurt. Paralysing intense lower back pain, radiating down to my thighs. I couldn’t bend my body anymore, had difficulty putting trousers on or socks or tieing shoelaces, I needed to use all kinds of cunning stratagems to get my fingers down there.

Sciatic back pain is intense. I took to walking 30 ft ahead or behind of my family on walks because I was not sure what kind of language might spontaneously come out of my mouth at any time.

You don’t see that sort of scenes in this country…. I think the more tolerant policy towards soft drugs like weed and ecstasy does mean that a lot of the people who would otherwise get addicted to these hard drugs instead stay with the softer stuff. And of course a different attitude to social housing.

  • On the island there's a park next door to the supermarket, where local alcoholics sit and drink, they use to sit part way down one of the walkways to Oneroa beach, but got moved on for causing a disturbance...

We don't really see the P addicts doing their thing in public (we have a fair few on the island)...a few are clients who every now and again, come into the office off their faces....

Ganja smoking is quite common, Aotearoa has one of the highest (no pun intended) number of dope smokers per capita in the world, last week when I was walking to my car in the supermarket underground car park, I walked past a van with windows down, music blaring out and the aroma of ganja wolfed throughout the carpark...
