fortunate failing

As we may have gathered, thunking ourselves OK, well, normal, balanced etc. No use. Ignorance and Dukkha cycles on …

BUT if we have a problem existing. Then we have a chance … we search. Some find Jesus, Wim Hoff or Buddha and … the rest is all good …

What have you found oh seeker?

    Taming the mind… yeah… it’s an issue.

Developing a spirit that tends towards letting go… is on the to-do list.

  • What have you found oh seeker?

Awareness being aware of 'being aware' of being aware...

From what 'I' gather it's Awareness which finds the seeker (the psychophysical phenomena called the self)...

The Mind (thus have I heard) is that which knows
And knowledge is acquired as Awareness grows

When we say "It rains" we never even assume that the "it" points to anything.

Awareness observes. There is no reason to assume that "it" points to anything.

The only function of awareness is to observe. Without awareness that function is lost. The function becomes body and mind. The mind can be defiled but awareness cannot!

If you can observe the desire arising awareness is still functioning.

Once attachment happens the function is lost. It is regained only when you noticed that you were pulled in after the fact. Its only function is to observe.

In this ocean of experience, you become body-mind and forget that "you" are the fish swimming in the ocean.

"You" forget that you are just a story!

    Well said @pegembara

    Exactly so.
Ego is a jabbering monkey story. Pretending it is something constant/real/unique. It is the awareness/attention that you mention that is The Real.

“So you should view this fleeting world --
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream,
A flash of lightening in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.”

    Mahayana Diamond Sutra/Gatha

dust in a storm, chaos manifesting as persona
and yet … we have nothing but this volatile ego to work with
Hence we polish it into some semblance of discipline (Yeah Elder Theravada plan)

there is a path … wander off and …

    That is the plan.

Yes, we keep polishing the mirror until there is no more dust on it. Then we find that there was no mirror in the first place. Everything is resolved.

The body is the bodhi tree,
The mind is like a clear mirror.
At all times we must strive to polish it,
And must not let the dust collect.

    Bodhi originally has no tree,
The mirror(-like mind) has no stand.
    Buddha-nature (emptiness/oneness) is always clean and pure;
Where is there room for dust (to alight)?

    Platform Sutra

    How shall I get liberated?
Find out who has bound you

    No one has bound me.
Then why ask to be liberated?

“Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists.”
    ACIM

"The mind sent outside is the origination of suffering; the result of the mind sent outside is suffering; the mind seeing the mind is the path, and the result of the mind seeing the mind is the cessation of suffering."

While practitioners might hope for a mind that more closely resembles a domesticated dog's generous attention & loyalty,
a cat's self-centered semi-domesticated state of wildness more typically describes the mind that we have to work
    with.

I knew it! Pussy mind …
