No but seriously- Chan: there is a group near me, and i am currently in another group (as you my have read) of Vietnamese Zen a long drive away. I know i must find out for myself but i need to know what i am letting myself in for from those in the know. Is Chan and Thien and Zen compatable or are they going to ask me to grow a ceremonial moustache or something? The order of practice seems pretty familiar...

    The western chan fellowship is a well known, and well respected, sangha. The structure will differ slightly from the community of interbeing, but that's not a bad thing.

    As Abu said, it's always best to find out for yourself :)

    Blueface, zen and chan are ostensiblyone and the same, the differences are cultural. Chan is chinese, Zen is japanese.
