Why do you want to know? Are you thinking of sending all the soldiers individual "Merry Christmas, give this up now, it's a bad deal!" cards?

** According to Pentagon records, in fact, there are 761 active military "sites" abroad.

The fact is: We garrison the planet north to south, east to west, and even on the seven seas, thanks to our various fleets and our massive aircraft carriers which, with 5,000-6,000 personnel aboard -- that is, the population of an American town -- are functionally floating bases.

Thailand before has been proud that is was one of very few populations not to be overtake by the UK onslaught.. They never gave in, now this, why? What did you the US offer? Seriously, what was it?

    Help fighting/suppressing muslims?

You know the whole "war on terror" thing Bush started that we "won" years ago lol.. Or Obama threatened to drone bomb all of their children if they didnt submit.

The main reasons we are so wide spread are thus, the cold war, UN involvement, and the war on terror.

If they are lobbying the US to get the base, it seems pretty clear the US has offered nothing, thus far.

No, the concept is to pretty much surround China.

  • @ThailandTom The answer is simple:
Every US military base anywhere in the world translates to Big $$ for the town and surrounding areas as well as a sense of unlimited security and more trade/business for all.
$$ talks, and $$ is the prize for any country pandering for a US military base on their home turf. The US spends anywhere from 50-150 BILLION dollars a year maintaining these overseas bases... money better spent in the US if you ask me.

One super power will not make it easy for an up in coming one, thats for sure..

The only difference between the cold war and now is that China is our master lol, they own us lock stock and barrel and could call out our debt any time.

Thailand plays both sides of the coin. Often they get cozy with the Chinese military, other times our military.

here we are a open people :p
  • After ww2 Germany and Japan both received heavy inputs of American military presence.
We rebuilt those countries. Japan and Germany both love us. They are fine democratic countries and their people are doing very well or at least they were when we finished rebuilding them-that was the Marshall Plan. Those countries were military dictatorships before that. They hurt a lot of people-a lot better now. Also when the Phillipine government asked America to get out-we got out. They are probably pretty sorry we did about now. America is not a colonial power. Most of the countries who have our bases want those bases. When that is not so we get out-like France shortly after the war. Sounds like those countries with bases are pretty fortunate we care enough to help out. Namaste

  • So.

What'd you think would happen if all the bases everywhere simply uprooted and sent the soldiers back home? Just curious.
