    Yes, the two sides work together. There are very real problems handling information if the corpus callosum (that links the 2 hemispheres) is severed. But in terms of brain-function studies done with meditators, it is the right hemisphere that is active when one is in a meditative state.
    (speaking from both personal interest in this area of science as well as university courses in neuropsychology and neurophysiology)
