Adventure jobs

Can someone suggest adventurer jobs, something you could go out there in the real world and do?

Peace Corps requires a 4 year degree most of the time (if not all the time.) There are actually a WHOLE host of "adventure" careers and jobs out there if you know how to look. Did you have something or a particular area in mind? Check out www.outwardbound.org and www.nols.edu for a good start. If you want to work with kids, Outdoor Education is an option. My sister worked for Outward Bound and my son has been on their courses. Wonderful, wonderful organization, but a specific kind of adventure.

  • I was a bartender at a very seedy establishment years ago. That was quite the adventure.

These are both outdoor adventure schools. NOLS especially teaches you how to be a leader of outdoor adventure courses.

I also found this, they are more a site designed to appeal to a tourist but it'll give you information for what is offered, and you can probably get in touch with them about information in that field, and possible job opportunities.

  • How about a cop, or firefighter? :om:
  • NGO jobs in general are quite an adventure and rewarding spiritually, I think...
  • Not sure if this is the kind of adventure job you intended, but EMT! Around here (Texas, USA) it's a 4-month course. Not extremely difficult, just need to understand the basics of the body.

Definitely an adventure in the sense that you go into people's homes, into all kinds of people's lives, deal with people in all sorts of states and situations. Not what I'd want to do forever, but I spent 2 years there and it was a wonderful experience.
