Particularly pertinent to the British: Rik Mayall has died.

No news as to exactly how or why, but he was an extremely funny man, and a really nice guy.

    Indeed, he was iconic among me and my peers when I was growing up. That's 'bottomed' out my evening.

    **Reacting to the news of Mayall's death this evening, Edmondson said: "There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing.

    "They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him.

    "And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish b*****d."**

    Now that's how I'd like to be remembered

    I was really upset when I read this. I grew up with The Young Ones.

    @Citta‌ - I love it.

    I'm about to watch the Socceroos get slaughtered challenged by Chile. Given that my father's family are all from Newcastle-On-Tyne and Scotland, I'll be supporting England too (but shh that's a secret ;) ... )

    At 56, he was very young. It reminds me of my own impermanence.
