How much time do yo spend on this forum ?

I'm just wondering how much time people spend on this forum a day on average. Recently I think I have been spending around two to three hours on and off a day, I think it may have something to do with more spare time than usual on my hands. Anyway I think the time is spent wisely as when I read and reply to other peoples posts, it all motivates me to do some research, study the Dharma and reflect on my attitudes and beliefs more.

haha! TOO MUCH!! Maybe about 2 hrs./day.
  • I've been functionally apartment-bound for about a year, so I have this page open on my netbook next to my chair all the time.

I'm getting better and plan to get out more, BTW. Can't waste this beautiful spring here in Middle America.
  • I used my phone so I am logged on 24/7 and check whenever I am not busy
  • It's a nice site when I'm procrastinating on homework, so whenever I take a break on my laptop, I open a side window to see what's being discussed. So it's open everyday, and if something catches my interest I discuss, but usually I watch people. There are some passionate topics I steer clear of, and I also was surprised at how much quoting goes on. But I do enjoy giving advice to people, it's my inner peer mediator/therapist that pops out when I see people in need. I enjoy seeing people's takes on Buddhism, because I don't live in an area where I can meet other Buddhists.
  • I don't really know, I randomly look on here from my itouch while I'm watching tv.
  • Not as much as I would like to. I don't have time to read all of the topics I want to, but maybe I browse for about three of four hours a week.
  • I have to say that I wish I could spend more time here.

It is such a pleasure to meet so many open minded, full of wisdom and providing great links people.

    THANK YOU ALL.

You are making a big diffrence to my life.

    Namasti
  • I also really appreciate Lincoln and the moderators. They are all very tolerant and giving great advice.

While I too appreciate all the hard work Lincoln puts into this site, I spend much less time on the forum since the change over to the new format. I used to be a daily visitor, now... once every couple of months.

I agree...too much. But I'm having some health issues lately and staying home much more than usual, so it provides me with some distractions and helps me contemplate more about important Buddhist issues.
  • I think it depends what you are sacrificing. I am disabled and this is a very positive resource for me as social and sharing the dharma with a active sangha. To devalue it as like watching TV for me would be inaccurate. If someone is sacrificing their family or career or other meaningful hobbies then maybe they are spending too much time. Or if someone is addicted. Addictions can also be identified by feel. They are suffering.

Jeffrey, if you were referring to my response, don't misunderstand. I see it mostly as very productive time (the only reason I say mostly is that some of the topics get pretty silly -- in my view -- like the one about getting a dog to meditate). In fact, I would say that after visiting a number of Buddhist message forums, this may be the best with a nice array of viewpoints.
  • Nah I was just thinking about why I spend so much time ;)

I don't come here as much as I used to anymore. 9 out of 10 times some of the rehashed threads annoy the crap out of me so to practise Dharma better, I come here less often.

    I am disabled....
Jeffrey, is it ok for me to ask what you mean by 'disabled'? Here in the UK I think we have a different meaning to the USA sometimes. An example being an American friend who has depression and who has a daughter with one years delay in learning abilities. She describes both of them as being 'disabled' whereas this wouldn't be the terminology used in the UK.

I wasn't able to edit my above post in the last couple of minutes of editing time so I'll continue here.

My time spent on this forum varies. I look in and out briefy from time to time if I'm using my computer and taking a break. I don't read all of the threads though.

I hate it when that happens, 5 mins is not long enough :bawl:
I guess I should use the preview icon, keep forgetting tough
  • Dazzle, it has a broad meaning too but what I mean is that I cannot hold a job due to my disability.
  • Too much.
