That was Morrisey who first played in the Smiths http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Smiths

  • Note: Despite it's title, it's not actually Christian music. I've had a lot of people refuse to listen to this song based solely on it's title, so I feel like i should make that disclaimer.

It's a really poignant song by the Mountain Goats ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mountain_Goats ) that has never failed to put me in a state of peace. Other really good songs by this artist I'd recommend are Never Quite Free, Liza Forever Minnelli, Damn These Vampires, No Children, Old College Try, Prowl Great Cain, and well...just about anything by them, actually.

    Portishead

    "Western Eyes"

    Forgotten throes of anothers life
The heart of love is their only light
    Faithless greeds, consolidating
    Holding down sweet charity
With western eyes and serpents breath
We lay our own conscience to rest

But I'm aching at the view
Yes I'm breaking at the scenes just like you

They have values of a certain taste
The innocent they can hardly wait
    To crucify, invalidating
    Turning to dishonesty
With western eyes and serpents breath
They lay their own conscience to rest
But then they lie and then they dare to be
    Hidden heros candidly

So I'm aching at the view
Yes I'm breaking at the scenes just like you

(I feel so cold on hookers and gin...this mess we're in!)
