    I LOVE the pipes.
  • edited January 2006
Part of my family heritage! I love them and it makes me either cry or get up and march around the house (OK so I'm weird, I said it before) but out of consideration for my poor husband who hates them, I have to limit myself to solo listening! So if you are in France and you are passing a car with the windows wound down and bagpipe or military band music coming out, chances are it's me - say hello would you?

wow, I'm suprised to find a "metalhead" here. I like a ton of the band's you listed. Sepultura is great so is Primus (not metal but still good), Slayer is awesome to. I like alot of "death"metal for it's rawness.

Saw them live years ago. A great evening, couldn't see Andrew or the rest of the band due to the dry ice and I got flattened by some drunk biker Goths who decided to form a human pyramid in front of me! Ah, happy times.

Also my yoga teacher is lead singer of a band called Ausgang that were at the forefront of the Goth Punk movement in the early 80's

As for my taste in music, I span all genres!

This is just a small sample taken from my trusty iPod and is in no order of preference:

    NoFX
    Sceeching Weasel
    March Violets
    All About Eve

    Shakuhachi masters (Japanese flute music)
Huun Hur Tuu (Mongolian throat singers)

Probably would have been quicker to say that I appreciate any music that has not been 'created' with the idea of cashflow in mind. I'd say it's pretty easy to tell when that's the case!

Interesting to read everybody's lists though!

Being a pipe player - I love the pipes too. If you've never heard of The Tannahill Weavers - you HAVE to check them out. Especially their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th cd's.

I'm an old school, Yes fan. I also love Peter Murphy. Bauhaus was okay - but I really, really like Peter.

Genryu, you villain, you have stolen my record collection!

Have I missed him, or am I the first to mention Leonard Cohen, without whom I would undoubtedly have topped myself decades ago?

I went to high school with Leonard Cohen's niece, Caroline. Just saw her again last year at our high school reunion. Very interesting family, mostly artists and all extremely intelligent, high I.Q.s and the like. Depression runs in their family. Caroline is now a union lawyer. So proud of her. She used to cry from deep inside at the drop of a hat and to think she fights for unions now makes me very happy. She was my first friend in high school. We took names from "The Little Rascals". She was Buckwheat and I was Alfalfa! Ah, those were the days.

If I recall correctly, LC was ordained on 9th August 1996, the anniversary of Jerry Garcia's death. His name in religion is, I think, Jikan, "Silent One". As far as I am aware, he has now left Mount Baldy, although I don't know if he has "dropped his robes". He is due in Berlin later on this year, which should be fun.

BTW, in the same vein, I would strongly recommend Jennifer Warnes' album (with LC) of his songs: Famous Blue Raincoat.

I think he no longer wears the robes, except perhaps for occassions when they're called for, but as ordination is for life in Zen he remains a Zen monk. I've never been a great fan of his but some of his lyrics are 'interesting'.

That's a tough one ... this is all I could find:

A mention of it at this site ... http://www.esuj.gr.jp/news/eng/archives/0027.htm
He interspersed his lecture with demonstrations of "Kita-guni-no Haru" (the spring in the north country) in Hindi, "Mukashi-no Namae-de Deteimasu" (back as a bar hostess with my old name again) in English, and "Mayoi-Yuki" (wandering snow) in Japanese.

And here's the actual song (but not the lyrics):

    http://mp3search.01-mp3search.com/top53-kita-guni-no-haru.html

I can't seem to find the lyrics. Sorry!
