I've come up with a great place for my shrine/alter and place to meditate! (under my stairs)

Hi guys!! Do you all have a place to meditate!

I've been thinking for ages where I can get up early and meditate and have a little read. I was even thinking about turning my loft into a huge shrine! But I've got a tiny storage room under my stairs and its even got book shelves and enough room for me to 'sit'

Where's your place to meditate? (Or do you just meditate in your room) - I have been doing that but I feel I wanted a little alter and all my books in same place! :)
Thanks for reading!

@zenmyste It sounds like you have a good spot! It's nice that there's book shelves, good feature for a meditation room. I don't have much space so I just meditate on the floor... it's where I sit anyway :)

BTW this might be more appropriate in the Meditation category.

    Hi zenmyste,

Sounds exciting :) I also have a shelf and on it is some books, an aroma lamp, and some aromas. A few cards including one from a buddhist I know and including a card with the buddha on the front. Eight cards with short sayings from a course I took about the western idea of 'the heart' and what that could mean in the context of buddhism. And like you books. Two espresso cups a friend gave me, which I turn upside down and fill on special occasions: when I feel, or western/eastern holidays.

I meditate on the floor like mugzy. I hope your shrine brings you much inspiration. Serva mangalam (may all be accomplished - sanskrit or Tibetan? salutation).

Congratulations - are you going to have a house-warming party? ;-)
But seriously it's great to have a place which is just dedicated to meditation, and you will find that over a period of time it develops a distinct "feel" which is very conducive to practice.

    Spiny
  • Hi zenmyste,

Now that the weather is warmer here again, I much prefer to do my meditation outside. I do have a shrine area in my home though, and I'm very lucky because I have quiet neighbours and so its mostly quiet indoors for meditation if the weather is bad.

I hope that your new meditation area will be of great benefit to you.

    :)
  • Thanks guys!!! X :)

I find havin somewhere to meditate keeps me motivated that's all!! X
  • When I was a kid I used to read books in the closet under the stairs. Stuffy! How's the ventilation in your closet?
