Castles Made of Sand by Jimi Hendrix

Down the street you can hear her scream you're a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbors start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

And so castles made of sand fall in the sea, eventually

A little Indian brave who before he was ten,
Played war games in the woods with his Indian friends
And he built up a dream that when he grew up
He would be a fearless warrior Indian Cheif
Many moons past and more the dream grew strong until
Tomorrow he would sing his first war song and fight his first battle
But something went wrong, surprise attack killed him in his sleep that night

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually

There was a young girl, who's heart was a frown
Cause she was crippled for life,
And she couldn't speak a sound
And she wished and prayed she could stop living,
    So she decided to die
She drew her wheelchair to the edge of the shore
And to her legs she smiled you wont hurt me no more
But then a sight she'd never seen made her jump and say
Look a golden winged ship is passing my way

And it really didn't have to stop, it just kept on going...

And so castles made of sand slips into the sea, eventually

Mahavishnu Orchestra: Smile Of The Beyond

    I follow your smile
    And try as I might
    I can't get it
    Out of my heart
    It's captured my heart

    I follow your mind
And though it may be unwise
    I see nothing else
    You're part of myself

    I follow your soul
I know it will make me whole
    With you I am one
    My vision is one

Once I thought my goal was so far away
    My long and tender search

    Now I see
    Within your very smile
    The way
    Within my heart
    It ever plays
    A symphony
    That sings an endless praise

    Smile of the beyond

    Lord of the day
Your face is an endless ray
    Of love in my life
    Light in my life

    Please let me stay
And be by your side forever
    Watching you smile
    I live for your smile

    Smile of the beyond

Blessed are the pure in heart
Blessed are the pure in heart
    (repeat)

    Please let me stay
And be by your side forever
    Watching your smile
    I live for your smile

    Now I see
    Within your very smile
    The way
    Within my heart
    It ever plays
    A symphony
    That sings an endless praise

    :)

    Lest we forget
The speed at which the world is turning
    Careering through space and time
    On her fatalistic journey

It scares me half to death
    That we tear ourselves apart
A war of love or religion
Close your eyes to the screaming

    Now are we pleased?
    How are we free?
    See how this obsession
    Turns the love to anger

    East calling west
    Falling onto stony groud
We are lost in our vision
    We are primitive and fearless

We send our message of confusion
    Across the great divide
With our eyes full of wonder
Still the world goes spinning by

    Now are we pleased?
    How are we free?
    See how this obsession
    Turns the love to anger

Love is where the dream should lie
It's not for us to reason why
    Or to ponder over strategy

So come with us and take a ride
Somewhere in the big blue sky
Before it's too late, it's too late, it's too late

    Hope you find it baby
    What you're lookin' for
    Doesn't really matter
    If you're rich or poor
    'Cause you've had your day
    Yes you had your day

    Now are we pleased?
    How are we free?
    See how this obsession?
    Turns the love to anger

    Standing on solid rock
    Standing on sacred ground
    Living on borrowed time
And the winds of change are blowin' down the line
    Right down the line

    LYRICS:
Out here nothin' changes, not in a hurry anyway
You feel the endlessness with the comin' of the light o' day
We're talkin' about a chosen place
You wouldn't sell it in a marketplace, well
    Well just a minute now

    Standing on solid rock
    Standing on sacred ground
    Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change are blowin' down the line
    Right down the line

Round about the dawn o' time, When dreamin' all began
    A croud o' people came
Well they were looking for their promised land
Were running from the heart of darkness
Searching for the heart o' light
    Well it was their paradise

But they were standin' on - solid rock
    Standing o-on sacred grou-ound
    Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change were blowing cold that night
    Oh

They were standin' on the shore one day, Saw the white sails in the sun
Wasn't long before they felt the sting, white man, white law, white gun
Don't tell me that it's justified, 'cause somewhere, someone lied
Yeah well someone lied, someone lied, genocide
    Well someone lied, oh, ahh

With your mind you have ability to form
And transmit thought energy far beyond the norm
You close your eyes, you concentrate
    Together that's the way
    To send the message
    We declare world contact day

Utube is not embedding, atm...
  • Last one from the Manics !

  • The obvious Radiohead song would be "Karma Police," but I think "Just" may be closer to the mark:

  • @Gui ... what a lovely jazz adaptation!
  • I've always like this song back as far as I can remember (my parents had this on 8-track!), but ever since I've been doing zazen, I hear it with different ears! LOL

You get up; you get down.
You get lost and then you get found.
    Sure as I'm sittin' here,
    Sure as I'm sittin' here.

You get a laugh; you get a cry.
Get 'em all before you die.
    Sure as I'm sittin' here,
    Sure as I'm sittin' here.

Come on sit down, get down.
Come on sit down, get down.
    Sure as I'm sittin' here,
    Sure as I'm sittin' here.

You get the truth; you get lies.
Enough to make a grown man cry,
    Sure as I'm sittin' here,
    Sure as I'm sittin' here.

You get the light; you get the dark.
Fall in love, it breaks your heart.
    Sure as I'm sittin' here,
    Sure as I'm sittin' here.

Come on sit down, get down.
Come on sit down, get down.
    Sure as I'm sittin' here,
    Sure as I'm sittin' here.

    All the ladies hypnotize you,
And all your friends, well they just patronize you.
Don't gotta look for God, he's just sittin' here.
I think he's got a plan but it's not so clear.

    Sure as I'm sittin' here,
    Sure as I'm sittin' here.

I still have a soft spot for these guys... This song tears me up actually :

  • Welcome to your life
    There's no turning back
    Even while we sleep
    We will find you
    Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world

    It's my own design
    It's my own remorse
    Help me to decide
Help me make the most of freedom and of pleasure
    Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you

So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world

    I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never never never never need it
One headline why believe it ?
Everybody wants to rule the world

All for freedom and for pleasure
    Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

"Close to the Edge" by Yes. Based on the novel Siddartha by Herman Hesse:

    First half:

    Second half:

  • "It finally comes to people's minds that I'm talking about sound that doesn't mean anything... These people who understand that finally say, 'You mean, its just sounds?' thinking that for something to just be a sound is to be useless-- whereas I love sounds just as they are, and I have no need for them to be anything more than what they are." ~John Cage

  • Under the Milky Way, by Church

Sometimes when this place gets kind of empty,
Sound of their breath fades with the light.
I think about the loveless fascination,
    Under the milky way tonight.

Lower the curtain down in memphis,
Lower the curtain down all right.
I got no time for private consultation,
    Under the milky way tonight.

Wish I knew what you were looking for.
Might have known what you would find.

    And its something quite peculiar,
    Something thats shimmering and white.
Leads you here despite your destination,
    Under the milky way tonight

Wish I knew what you were looking for.
Might have known what you would find.
Wish I knew what you were looking for.
Might have known what you would find.

    Under the milky way tonight.

    And its something quite peculiar,
    Something thats shimmering and white.
Leads you here despite your destination,
    Under the milky way tonight

Wish I knew what you were looking for.
Might have known what you would find.
Wish I knew what you were looking for.
Might have known what you would find.
  • Great song, Jeffrey. I love The Church...

Another good and perhaps appropriate song by The Church (also from Starfish-- every song on that album is classic):

    Welcome to Dukkha City!
