An adventure in the morning!

edited July 2011 in Buddhism Basics
It sounds like I *might* be going to the sangha nearest to me tomorrow morning! It's almost an hour away so it'll be pretty out of the way. I also had to find something for my husband to do since I can't drive the stick shift. It'll be the first time I'll be around other Buddhists. Not a joke. So I can honestly say I'm very nervous, don't know if I should take something or what to wear. But I figure that showing up is half the battle.

be at ease because (generally) you will leave the Buddhist centre at ease & wonder why you ever worried

generally, such a first visit is like returning to a 'home' you have never been to but always known

just wear something comfortable & modest, like loose trousers, long skirt, etc, with shoulders covered. dress modest & comfortable, enabling moving & sitting cross legged in meditation

you may give a donation at the end if you feel the experience was Dharmic

    all the best :)

  • I just wanted to say thanks for the advice! It was really a wonderful experience! I'm so glad that I ended up taking an offering to give. I can't believe now that I waited so long to go there. Next time I go hopefully the resident Lama will be there.
  • well done :)
