sometimes when i look at stuff like that, i just think, "i'm so happy i'm a vegetarian, i couldn't deal with the guilt of knowing that i contribute to that." but perhaps, that is the point. even knowing i don't contribute doesn't mean that my heart doesn't break when i look at those images.

These images invoke compassion for the suffering of those sentient beings. Therefore yes it can be seen as a depressing site, and yes the images are not nice, but sometimes it takes images like these to make people sit up and take notice of the suffering that goes on this world, and hopefully it can make them want to reflect on their lifestyle, if it contributes to this, and if it does what can be changed to stop this.

    Thanks for sharing @LeonBasin

i hope it works out for you. reading over my comment, i hope it doesn't sound too elitist or something. that's just the honest thought that was going through my head. "if i still ate meat, i would feel so terrible..." i mean, don't get me wrong, i'm not perfect by far... but adopting a vegetarian diet at least mostly keeps my conscience clean.

having said that, i still do eat meat sometimes at family parties and whatnot. i will only do it if the meat i'm eating will not be replaced by more meat (think: you buy ONE turkey for thanksgiving, it really doesn't matter if i eat it or not, no one's running out to the store for more), but i will not request/order meat. in this way, i am not contributing to the killing via supply/demand... and it keeps my grandma happy. my girlfriend does this and still manages to eat meat rather frequently because her parents always have meat for their dinners. i think that if more people would adopt this life style, it would make a big difference and they might still feel appeased because they CAN eat meat.
