What does the OP title mean? It was uttered by Mahatma Gandhi. What exactly did he mean by the word 'truth'?

  • What was the context? He probably meant to follow your conscience.

    It could be the reversal of “there is no truth higher than god”.
    And it would mean that we have to discern the truth instead of following religious dogma.
  • No-one knows what 'god' means; all we know about god is what someone wrote in a book... so lets just stick to truth for now, alright?

    @betaboy - This sounds similar to the Theosophical Society motto, "There is no religion higher than truth."

    zenff, pretty much nails it :thumbsup: The truth is realized directly through experience and is intuitively grasped, as opposed to blindly following dogmas, ideologies and beliefs. He seems to address and oppose the common herd-mentality that can be prevalent within society. Though, sheep will follow sheep :(

    @betaboy

    He meant "truth" plainly. :)
  • No-one knows what 'god' means; all we know about god is what someone wrote in a book... so lets just stick to truth for now, alright?
    No-one knows what 'buddha' means; all we know about buddha is what someone wrote in a book...
    So let's just stick to truth for now, alright?
  • Truth is truth, right? That blazing sand-grain of absolute awakened clarity.
  • There is no "god". There is only truth. :)
  • There is no "truth".
  • Truth points towards an object, or subject, but isn't a 'thing' obviously. Just as a compass points magnetically, so does 'the way' elucidate appropriate directions for people to follow.

    If ever I find god or buddha I imagine that it would disappear in a puff of smoke.
  • OP title meant that "cheese is the product of milk" where truth is cheese and milk is ordinary beings. Cheese and Milk is one entity. :thumbsup:
  • that's quite true...
