I prefer ebooks, good for the environment, and can store and carry about lots of books easily.

I bought this the other day,

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BINATONE-7-E-READER-BLACK-READ-ME-DAILY-2282-/250863159503

it is excellent, you can read e-books, watch movies listen to mp3, and all for £30 !!!
Excellent value for money a real bargain ! :D

(and before anyone asks, NO I dont know/works for the guy who sells them :P )

my girlfriend and i have a kindle as well. basically, there are still some books i would rather own in the physical form... but for random fiction and supernatural novels that we also read, the ereader is great. not only does it save us a bunch of money, but it also allows us to get some of the eclectic books that most bookstores don't carry. and how cool is it when you end up sick for a day or two and think, "well, i guess i'll just get a new book." with the kindle, you can just get it delivered instantly through amazon. so convenient.

Until I got a Kindle, I always preferred physical books. Reading them on a computer screen always ended up leading to headaches... Kindle is good though, not back-lit like PCs.
  • I definitely prefer to read the hard copy. I don't know what it is, but online or on-screen reading bugs the crap out of me. It's weird, but not having the actual book right there feels...not real, if that makes any sense (which it probably doesn't). It's weird to me.
  • Call me a luddite - I like a real book.
  • I am a hard copy person all the way! :) I'm very tactile and the experience of going to the store, touching the books, smelling the coffee and just being somewhere relaxing is just something that I would feel robbed of if I purchased an e-reader.
I feel that if I purchased one it would end up in the "drawer where electronics go to die."

Why does one have to be chosen over the other. I have a kindle and I enjoy it very much because I no longer have to worry about wanting to read and not being able to bring a book wherever. I also have a great collection of books that I like to pull out and read... Why make it about choosing one over the other?

There's also tons of free ebooks offered all over the web about all kinds of things. I have expanded my collection considerably since getting my kindle.

Also, I got the one with built in free wi fi and now I can go on the internet anywhere and I dont to pay!

I have always found reading on a computer screen to be quite annoying, so I thought a e-reader would be similar. I recently received a kindle as a gift and I must say, I love it. I don't think it is suitable for research or school work, but for just reading a good book, it works great. You can make notes, highlight things, and search for words in a dictionary without leaving your place in the book. I can carry a bunch of books with me either to ensure I have enough to read on a trip or just so I can pick a book that suits my mood at the time. I can go to the book store, browse books, and if they have wifi in the store, download them on my kindle right there. Even if you love physical books, you may find that an e-reader brings some new elements to reading.
  • I would love the kindle if it had a decent PDF support. Kindle sucks so bad handling PDFs
  • @Ric you can email amazon your PDF documents, they will convert them to a kindle form and deliver them to your kindle wirelessly. Works very well for text, not that great for images. I have a large collection of suttra from accesstoinsight.com that I have printed to a PDF and then emailed to amazon.
  • thanks tmottes I know that, but when it comes to "complex" text like a 200-500 page book with images and its on a PDF the conversion is crap.

The sad thing is that it supports PDF but it just doesnt allow you to crop and resize so that you can actually read it. It just looks incredibly small and its just lame. They could have def. made it a much easier reading experience but they dont because amazon doesnt sell PDF content.
  • I have a kindle and l do like it, but havent used it for a while as l am prefering the books. Storage is a major issue as l do re-read good books so l keep them all. Kindle was an impulse purchase and i think l should get to know my kindle better but nothing is better than bed with a good book, kindle just doesnt quite do it for me!
  • I love my Kindle, and I love my paper books, for different reasons. For some reason I find it easier to read non-fiction on the Kindle and fiction in paper book form. But then I have read non-fiction on the Internet for as long as I've had a connection, so perhaps it's just a habitual thing.
