gentle retreats?

Hi, I keep on thinking of retreats. However the more I look into it the more I realize that it may not work for me with the high discipline. I can have very good discipline however I also listen very carefully to my intuition about my body and mind limits because of a diagnoses I have. If I pay close attention then I am fine, it also means that I may have to get up and leave a meditation, eat at different times, or generally do something that doesn't seem to fit. I am not even sure that some places would accept someone like me, maybe if they met me and realized I am very functional and fine, but still frustrating. I thought about just going and renting a room in the mountains at a cabin but I am not looking for isolation. Any ideas (and maybe places that have scholarships or discounts)

    Hi AHeerdt,

I don't know if you are prepared to come to Australia to do a meditation retreat, but you'd definitely be able to book yourself into a retreat at Jhana Grove Meditation Retreat Center under Ajahn Brahm's instruction. He is extremely flexible in his approach. If you can't come to Australia, he does teach retreats overseas, so keep an eye out for one in a town near you!

    Metta,

  • Ooh thank you, I would love to go to Australia but the finances for airfare will be a challenge. I work a job that is during the school year but so far have had to work every summer for financial reasons. This year is the strict budget year so I can do what I want with my summer soon. I will look out for ones in the western US

I'm not sure where you're located, but in my experience, most centers would be quite understanding and accommodating if you have a medical issues, such as diabetes or something similar in which you need to monitor your eating, etc. You just need to call them and ask ahead of time so they can make appropriate arrangements for you. There are also day-long retreats and similar activities if you're not ready for something so intensive as a week-long or even month-long retreat.
  • see it as a vacation... of samsaric-producing events.

my last (and real, in a way) satori will be near a tree, in a retreat...
