Delusion

I have seen many times in this forum where some people tell others than they are delusional. At first glance this seems like judgement, but then if I take into account wisdom gained through meditation, then it might not be judgement. How do you differentiate between somebody being judgmental and somebody with actual wisdom and insight into your situation, especially in a online forum?

  • I'd say it's a safe bet to say that all members of this forum have not yet achieved full liberation/nirvana and so maintain at least a certain level of delusion. Judgment, in my book, is when someone says, "you are more deluded than me/him/her." It is a case where comparison is being made. Only a Buddha can make that assertion, having the ability to know the minds of others.

How? But not taking those comments so seriously & personally; by taking those comments with the framework of (compassionate) Buddhism; by lightening up. Kind regards :)

Yes, we all contribute to this forum out of the kindness of our hearts.
Occasionally  some ego-stuff may get in the way; just see through that.

Just pick up what you can use and leave the rest behind.
  • If I'm calling somebody delusional it becomes my responsibility to explain why that is.

In other words pointing fingers is not enough. My words must prove to be of benefit to another, not used to bully, harass or gain the upper hand for my own benefit.

Unless you yourself are wiser than they are, you have no way of knowing. That is the nature of delusion it cannot know itself. This is the reason the teachings of the Buddha have to be put to the test and only after seeing it for yourself do you believe in it. So the same goes with other people's comments, rather than trying out their ideas which is risky, better to see if what they have spoken are inline with the teachings of the Buddha and then decide where to go from there.
