Relax in the village square

You should all live by my standards!
Was just thinking about that yesterday on a long car-trip.
A lot of conflict in society -and on internet forums- is about people imposing their standards and rules of behavior on other people.
They shouldn’t do that!
And ..ah.. when I think like that I’m doing it.

We are stuck with each other we are herd animals. We don’t go where we want to go; we need to move the herd in the direction we want it to go.
Hence the Bodhisattva’s vow. The Bodhisattva can’t simply enjoy his freedom; he vows to keep whining until the last animal of the herd is trapped in his idea of liberation. Compassion? Of course not; it’s just sick.

It’s like the famous koan about Bodhidharma. If he really had a full realization of emptiness, why did he come all the way to China and bother people with it? Why make the effort?

Relax in the village square
before the sky, everything's empty.
No direction is better or worse,
East just as good as West.
Those who know the meaning of this
are free to go where they want.
