Are there Buddhist groups and people on Facebook?

I've closed my Facebook account in 2007 because there was nothing that interested me on it in that time.

Lately I've been considering try Facebook again but I'd like to know if I would find it different this time and one of the things it could have that I'd like is Buddhist discussions, Buddhist groups and open minded people.

So how is nowadays Facebook regarding these matters?

Im a member of several social media is a good way of disscussing Dharma when there are so many people of your own tradition on facebook as well it seems a pretty good idea being able to keep in contact with your actual sangha on a national and international basis, Its much more handy then disscussion forums in that they gather only a few where as facebook gathers them all :)

Never really specifically searched for Buddhist groups on Facebook, but there's some Buddhist people on there.

buddhagroove.com on facebook is pretty cool too. they post insperational quotes and stuff.
  • re-open your account and search. I guarantee you will find things.
For myself Jodo Shinshu is very under-represented and or misunderstood on Buddhist forums like this one, but there are a couple good fb pages on JS.
I actually learned of an online Plum village monastery with live talks from TNH and archived one's as well though Thich Nhat Hanh's fb page.
Actually I think it is very possible fb pages could pretty much replace forums like this one at some point.
  • Master Ou-I "facebook" is one of a very good commentary and discussion.

I made an fake account just to spy Facebook. My impression is that people get too distracted with pics of sexy girls and show off people thus no one seems to be interested in talking or discussing Buddhism or anything else there. Too much gossip and too little discussion regarding Buddhism neither any other subject. So I think it is very unlikely I will ever find a community or group of people on Facebook that could be any similar to NewBuddhist.com.

The Dalai Lama is on Facebook too. Lots of teachers are. A lot of monks and dharma centers have facebook pages also.

What must I search for in Google Groups in order to find his group?
