In another totally unrelated forum I frequent (nothing to do with Buddhism in any way), there's someone whom I appear to have horrifically offended by simply stating that in 30+ years of flying airplanes, I've never heard of something being referred to in the way he claims is "standard practice". It just floors me that people can take such offense from someone they don't even know, have never met, and about something that really means *nothing* to anyone.

What a sad life that must be...

    Yep!
    Amazing indeed!
  • @Mountains - I used to work in air traffic control and thus am quite interested to know what it was the person thought was 'standard practice'?

Mountains, ya gotta stay away from those forums. People are so unbelievably rude and hostile on most forums, and know-it-all-ish, it trashes any chance of having any enjoyment exchanging with people. I don't get that culture. I've read the analyses of on-line "culture"--the anonymity supposedly leads people to express themselves more obnoxiously than they would in person--but that doesn't really explain what compels them to be obnoxious in the first place.

If you want peace of mind and contentment, find another passtime, or a forum of nice, normal people. Really, that's what it boils down to.
  • For the most part it's fine. It's just every once in a while... wow!
