I am a devourer

edited August 2011 in Buddhism Basics
I just came to the realization, that I am an extremely wasteful, hateful, and powerful devourer..

I go from one thing to the next consuming things, until there is nothing left, then I look for more things to consume, i'm like a hellfire that will burn everything in heaven..

Why? because I am hungry... Why am i hungry? why am i never satisfied?

craving makes attachments, but it takes on a whole new meaning when u burn through things like a wild fire..
I've burned through friends, family, jobs, money, drugs, booze, hopes and dreams....

fire is my father.
I wish i could be fickle like the wind, strong like the earth, flow like the water and quick like lightning.. but instead i'm burning eternal..

  • I used to be the same.
  • I just came to another realization,
Fire isn't the 'evil' element, it is a strong element of change,
maybe I could fan these flames into a great fire to benefit all of us...
  • nothing is permanent,
maybe your fire is transition :)

So, your plan is... Kill everything so there is nothing left to endure suffering?

The causes of Samsara arise in the mind, If you have a wish to end Samsara and its sufferings meditate upon emptiness and discipline the body, speech and mind in virtue.
Samsara will not end untill the causes of its arising are ceased. So if you want to use your great fire element as you say turn it against the real enemies of delusion. :)
  • "Bhikkhus, all is burning. And what is the all that is burning?

"The eye is burning, forms are burning, eye-consciousness is burning, eye-contact is burning, also whatever is felt as pleasant or painful or neither-painful-nor-pleasant that arises with eye-contact for its indispensable condition, that too is burning. Burning with what? Burning with the fire of lust, with the fire of hate, with the fire of delusion. I say it is burning with birth, aging and death, with sorrows, with lamentations, with pains, with griefs, with despairs.

"The ear is burning, sounds are burning...

"The nose is burning, odors are burning...

"The tongue is burning, flavors are burning...

"The body is burning, tangibles are burning...

"The mind is burning, ideas are burning, mind-consciousness is burning, mind-contact is burning,

Do you have a solid and consistent meditation practice?

You're describing pretty well the "hungry ghost" who has a little tiny mouth and big empty belly. A symbol of those of us who have an unquenchable thirst. Desire torments all of us, until we follow seeker242's hintful advice of maintaining a consistent meditation practice.

Good luck TheFound, glad to see you're still paddling the old canoe!

Same thing. Beside being wasteful and such, I even waste time trying to figure out how to do something.

Impermanence of things. Even if you get what you want, these things don't last, and a need for more will set in.

So, you are saying that...oh, never mind ! You are saying that you had family friends, drugs, etc, and you consumed them, and now you want them again ? ( I'm not very clever).
    fire is my father.

I wish that too. If only I get rid of my fear of (chavish) people or people whom I don't like and I don't want to make eye contact with, nearly every week.
