What is the wooden stick that zen monks use during meditation at a priory? Thanks for the info, I am new in training.

the one they hit you with in zazen to wake you up?
or the one they wave around their heads and stomp down onto the ground and ask if you hear this?

I remember watching a documentary in the UK a lot of years ago where they showed some poor Zen monk being 'slapped' hard with one of these sticks. It made me laugh! (Very little compassion when I was little, see?)

Then the monk said "Dozo" (Thanks).

They sell them on e-bay.
