Feeling Drunk after Meditating.

edited September 2011 in Buddhism Basics
I have never gotten tipsy (although I drink), so I don't exactly know what it feels like; I am only making this comparison based on other people's accounts.

Meditating rejuvenates me and I like it, but after I open my eyes and wander around a bit, I feel...Drunk.

I sit on a pillow in full lotus. I relax my muscles, I lower my chin. I breathe progressively slower as time passes. Is my posture or breathing flawed?

  • It's probably that your blood pressure takes a little while to catch up after you've been relaxing. It's usually nothing to worry about (see a doctor, of course, if you are worried). Some people can even faint after meditating or sitting for a while.

The trick is to get up slowly, have a drink of water, shake your limbs out gently. Let your body wake-up to match your mind. Don't just shoot up from your cushion and start rushing about!

P.S. I have got tipsy and I can tell you it's a lot worse than that.
