I just wanted to share that I have only been meditating for a short time and I am still getting used to it, but tonight I had a full 32 minutes with minimal restlessness and much less distraction. My experience was a little shaky at first, but whenever I felt like my mind was starting to do acrobatics I just returned to breath consciousness and refocused. I found that if I became uncomfortable, recognizing the discomfort and then moving on made it virtually go away. I had many different thought and emotions pass over me including memories, sadness, joy, and intentions. I did my best to be an observer of my minds natural process and not a director. Am I doing this right? Haha!

When i was finished for the night, I arose after several minutes of just sitting and felt a real sense of peace. It was encouraging.

What are your sitting experiences like? I don't know anyone who meditates and all of my limited knowledge on the practice comes from literature so I would love to hear experiences from anyone who is willing to share!

I am attempting vipassana meditation, but welcome any and all types of sharing in regards to meditation.

  • It sounds like you are doing it right! We note what arises when it arises, but do not let the mind follow it into distraction. In our normal mode of being we are constantly following our craving for sense pleasures without even noticing, but in our meditation we see that this is how our minds are and can begin to detach from being robots, from being slaves to our craving.

    Good work!

sounds fine, to me...to feel free (rather than oppressed & entangled) is the goal :)

When uncomfortable, open to the discomfort.

I sit for many hours in a monastery sometimes - and love it, generally speaking. :D

It's a beautiful practice, IMO. Keep it up, don't lose it, @frequency86.
  • It seems that you are enjoying a very positive experience. Although there are many similarities between all of us, there are as many types of meditation as there are meditators, as our practice is very personal.

There is no "Goal" so please don't strive for one. There is only your experience.
No amount of meditation will guarantee you enlightenment.

I hope you continue to enjoy the experience.

    Namaste
