Out of the mouths of babes
This happened to me eight years ago and made me realize what a lucky guy I am. I would like to share it with you.
When I met my wife 20 years ago, she had two daughters from a previous marriage that she had been raising by herself for 10 years or so. I always did the best I could and loved them as I would had I been their natural father. Time went by and the girls grew up and had children of their own. Years later, my oldest daughter, J, was having some issues with being abandoned by her natural father when she was very young and her therapist advised her to reach out to her father and re-establish contact. So she went and took her daughter with her. My granddaughter never knew of him and J had to explain it all to the 8 year old on the way to the visit. She was confused and upset but comprehended the way things were. After their visit they came by to see me and my wife. I was sitting in my chair when they arrived and the first thing my granddaughter did was come over to me. She had a worried and concerned look on her face as she kneeled down beside me and took my hand in her two little hands. The she looked up at me and said, "Grandad, I hope this doesn't upset you. But you're not Mom's Dad".
I'll never forget it.
