What would you do if you were in a situation similar to Amanda Knox?

Knox has been acquitted.
I am wondering what you would do
if you were charged with murder and you
were guilty. Would you fight the charge
and claim to be innocent or will you
confess and accept the punishment?
No, I am not saying Knox is guilty.

I hope I wouldn't murder, but if I did, I hope I'd 'fess up and accept whatever society demands.

I find honesty (with compassion and intelligence) to be the best policy. It's an easier way to live.

I don't think Knox was guilty. There was a 3rd party involved, whom they investigated from the beginning, and I think he did get jail time. That one's the guilty party, IMO. And there was an article about the judge involved with the case. He has a history of concocting satanic conspiracy theories, and all kinds of outlandish stuff, and charging innocent people on that basis. Sounds like a bit of a nut-job.

I can't imagine committing murder except in self-defense, in an extreme case. So of course I'd say it was done in self-defense.

Thank heaven she was acquitted! The last report I saw, last weekend, they said her chances were slim. Accusing an American student, and inventing lurid details, make for great tabloid press and fits the impression many people around the world have of American women, thanks to the trashy B-grade movies the US markets abroad.

I guess as a Buddhist, one could make the argument that if she is guilty, she will still suffer karmic consequences, and thus man-made punishments are irrelevant.

Would you make the same argument for terrorists?

Re-read what I wrote, and think carefully about what I actually said:

    "...one could make the argument..."

Saying that I can see how someone might make that argument, is not the same as me saying that it's what I believe in.

  • A person capable of murder would be capable of lying.
A person incapable of lying would be expected not to be capable of murder.

The statement "I am innocent" would be meaningless in this context.

I wouldn't murder. But if for some reason I did, I cannot say whether or not I'd say I'm innocent. Depends on the circumstances. Was I clinically insane when it happened? Fit of rage? Manslaughter?
  • I believe there is a difference between being innocent and being not guilty.

Yes. They think they are going to heaven with virgins, etc. They are in for a big surprise! It's simply impossible to get away with murder, even if no human person ever catches them.
  • I could say that I'd accept the punishment, but that wouldn't necessarily be honest. And even if I did confess I'd certainly try to fight to get as light a sentence as possible.

Nobody is incapable of murder or lying.

Right... Cause only Muslims have been terrorists. That's something you don't expect to see at a place like this...
